Reading a Walmart 850: what the segments mean

Walmart's store supply chain sends 850s in X12 version 004010. The parts that matter to you:

Segment	What it carries
BEG	PO number (element 3) and PO date — the number every later document must reference
DTM	Ship/delivery date windows — miss these and the chargeback clock starts
N1*ST	Ship-to: which Walmart DC, with its GLN/DUNS identifier
PO1	One line item: quantity, unit of measure, unit price, and item identifiers (UPC, vendor part #)
CTT	Line-item count — cross-check it against the actual lines (this tool does automatically)

After you've read the PO, Walmart expects EDI back

The 850 is only the first leg. Walmart requires an 855 acknowledgment, an856 Advance Ship Notice before your truck arrives, and an 810invoice that matches both — with chargebacks for late or invalid ASNs. Manually keying those into WebEDI works, but it's slow and one typo costs real money.
